    Perhaps everyone wants to appeal to centrists. But, by and large, Republican politicians in the US have little interest in painting themselves as centrists, especially the crop of Republicans who are running for senate in purple states this year such as Rand Paul, Pat Toomey, Marco Rubio and Sharon Angle.

    These days, more Republicans want to be tea partiers than centrists. The only strong centrist republicans right now are in blue states such as Scott Brown and Mike Castle.
