Have you forgotten the presidential primary selection process? Kamala didn't get one single vote. Then when Biden dropped out for reelection, the Dems didn't bother having a primary to select a nominee, they just forced her on the public.
That's from the party that claimed they wanted to "save Democracy", they picked a candidate in a backroom deal made by a few top Dems that nobody wanted.
The parties are private organizations. They can choose their candidates by voting or with archery contests - THAT IS UP TO THEM. It is also why political parties are HIGHLY SUSPECT - all of them, equally, as George Washington said.
The D process was made irregular by a candidate dropping out. There is no fixed and obvious process to handle that. The R process was even less regular - threats, bribes, and blackmail. Choose your poison.
Ranked Choice Voting is the cure for all these ills. That would require a Constitutional amendment and would also get rid of the EC. That would be great. Let's do that. Oh wait - the existing parties don't want that. Wonder why. 😆
