I personally do not know any other languages, but this is an international web site, and everyone speaks in english, when it is clear to me that most all of you know other languages. My question to debate over perhaps is why.😕

Originally posted by joe shmoI think so. Hard to remember. I typed what I wanted into freetranslation.com, which creates more of a pidgin version than a good translation. I think the gist of it was that on my planet the language is a combination of musical notes with intermittent clicks and doesn't translate well into written English. Something like that. It was a weak moment. 😞

At that site you can translate TO Norwegian but not FROM it. I didn't feel up to doing further research. But the point is that posts are most often in English because that is the most common language understood by those who post. There are posts in other languages as well, but they aren't necessarily addressed to the wider audience. I've been on web sites (OK, one) that has specific forums for French, Italian, German, Spanish, Dutch, Portuguese, Greek, Finnish, and a Scandinavian forum.

If people on this site started using their own native languages - other than English - I think they would quickly find they'd have only a very few listeners interested in what they have to say.
English is more widely spoken than any other language on earth so it makes sense to use it on public forums like this one. Of course some twit will surely reply to my statement and say Chinese is spoken by more people than any other language, which is true, but Chinese is also limited geographically (which may also change as they gradually conquer the world by stealth). English is more widespread.
