Can someone please explain to me "The Donald's" obsession with Twitter? I've noticed that most really successful people such as Apple's Tim Cook, Google's Sundar Pichai, Microsoft's Satya Nadella, Warren Buffett, Jeff Bezos, Howard Schultz and many others have little or no presence on social media, such as Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram (because they are busy working rather than socializing) So, why is Donald Trump so obsessed with getting back on Twitter?

@mchill saidwhy are you so obsessed with Donald Trump?

@mchill saidBecause his Twitter platform was what enabled him to win the Presidency and so he assumes (probably correctly) that he needs that kind of direct platform to win again.

@sh76 saidHe hosted a reality show for a decade. He went on every talking head show every weekend all weekend for a year leading up to the election. There's a ton of other places he can and does go for directly communicating with people. We hear from him all the time now.

My suspicion is that the right wing is obsessed with "censorship" (even while they're banning public library books) and they think the base responds to the idea that trump's being silenced by an evil cabal of baby traffickers working through the Twitter.
The media and politicians are obsessed with Twitter but it's not swinging elections.
@wildgrass saidAre you serious?

Did people forget how Trump used Twitter in 2015 and 2016? He was on it 20 times a day. He used it to go over the heads of the media and say what he had to say straight to the people. He ALSO did interviews and rallies of course, but the vast majority of his communication was over Twitter.
You can love him or hate him, but ignoring the central role of Twitter in Trump's campaign is revisionist history in the extreme. We used to joke how his Presidential library was just going to be a bunch of Tweets plastered all over the walls.
Without Twitter, there's not a snowball's chance in Hell that Trump wins in 2016.
Wow, people have short memories.
@wildgrass saidSorry if my reaction was a bit strong, but I'm truly amazed that an intelligent guy like you really seems to have forgotten (or possibly unconsciously blocked) how central Twitter was to Trump's communications.

It can't just be that you don't remember. There must be something in there about not wanting to believe that Twitter made Trump.

“Without Twitter, there would be no Donald Trump presidency,” said CNN senior political analyst Kirsten Powers. “And I think he knows that.”
@sh76 saidAre you serious he was never off MSM right from the primaries he was getting free air time because his crackpot persona was fascinating in the same way that a snake is hard to look away from.

I hope the centrist msm have learnt their lesson and do not put viewing figures above equal air time rules leading up to 2024 in the primaries and general election.
He’s obsessed with twitter for the same reason he’s obsessed with the 2020 election, his narcissistic personality cannot bear to lose or be ignored.

@sh76 saidYes and its a piece of nonsense I doubt trumps base are even on Twitter, I’m in the uk and never on Twitter but every time I checked an msm channel in the US there he was rousing up the base or saying any obnoxious crap he could think of about his opponents, Republican and Democrat.

Are you seriously suggesting Twitter is more influential in relation to your classic Republican or trump voter than MSM outlets like Fox News. And when was he ever stopped from saying anything on conventional media in the run up to the 2016 election? Twitter became an issue during his presidency not during the election.
The idea that trump cannot get his message out without Twitter is retarded.

@sh76 saidYeah obviously I disagree. He was on Twitter all the time though out his presidency because he was obsessed with it not because his campaign depended on it. He tweeted hundreds of times a day and were expected to think he did real work.

Nah he only need Twitter because he was an addict like the rest of us.
