With the anti-Russian rhetoric returning to cold war levels, every institute (capitalist, media or otherwise) ramping up sanctions, propaganda and donating and the mass concern for Ukrainians; fleeing or not, will this deter other nations from invading others?

Once this crisis has subsided, and Israel decides to annex more of Palestine, are we going to see this same level of solidarity with Palestinian civilians and anti-Israeli behaviour?

Or, will the US now stop invading foreign countries? And if they do, will McDonalds stop selling burgers in Texas and Facebook allow, temporarily, calls to violence against US forces?

Will this end up protecting Taiwan?

Could something good come of all this?

@shavixmir

Yes.

Canada will give the Ukrainians citizenship and that will be a nice change from the "other" immigrants 🤔

@shavixmir

I also see Taiwan being invaded next after China analyzes the world's response to the Russia vs Ukraine match.

Russia is an enemy of the west; other invasions will not get the same reaction in these parts of the world. America isn't invading Europe; so US victims don't get the same sympathy. I've seen many people reference other Russian invasions, like Georgia; but it seems no one mentions Afghanistan because they're not the west; no one cares.

This war is in Europe's backyard and everyone is on edge. When wars happen in the Middle East or Africa, we talk about it with less urgency. Putin was rightly blasted for attacking hospitals and civilians...but what about American drone strikes on Afghani civilians that also included children?

Israel has the support of western Christians, especially in the US. Their treatment of Palestine will not get the same ire from the west (though admittedly, it's mostly the U.S. that looks away, not so much other western nations).

People will care about Taiwan, but mostly because their conflict with what is arguably the world's biggest juggernaut. The West is has interests in China's markets. Yemen? No one cares.

I don't see any good coming out of this. I think this war will just further the divide between the West and Russia. After all, no one in Europe will aid Ukraine with military support. If Russia ever invades Belarus, it will be the same for them. So no, I doubt there will be any real change.

Quite possible. Quite bleak too.

Do you think if the West (NATO, the US or Europe) invade a country and there’s no outcry about it, that there will be a mass pointing of fingers and shouting of: “Hypocrite”?
Or do you reckon people will shrug it off?

That's up to how it's reported in the media.

This is the first time I can remember western nations taking a more balanced view of a war involving Russia. It wasn't just a case of the Red Menace being evil; media outlets from all around the world, including the US and Europe, went out of their way to point how NATO contributed to this war with legitimate criticisms and pointed commentary.

So there is hope, as long as western media continues to take a more honest and balanced approach to war like they appeared to do here. But more importantly, western media has to care just as much about invasions in other parts of the world as they did with Ukraine.

They'll always be good and bad things that come about as a result of a war. This war was an unnecessary waste of life, property, and resources initiated by an old man in Russia trying to recreate a Soviet Union that died long ago. The good news is the west will slowly become less dependent on Russian oil, speed up the development of clean, renewable energy sources, electric cars, and telecommuting making them less dependent on oil in general. It's just a shame so many innocent people will have to die before this happens. 😕

The Israel Palestine hostility isn’t comparable to what’s going on in Ukraine and more that the Ireland UK hostility is.

Israel enacted a 14 year blockade that deprived Palestinians of food and medicine. This was made worse after the U.S. cut off aid to Palestine.

The details of the conflict may be different but the suffering of Palestinians has been brutal.

Invasions are all borne out of different’rumblings and reasons. They cannnot be compared.

Ahhh, so you can argue that US interventions can be applauded, even when the results to civilian lives are much worse.

Gotcha.
