with an unprecedented 13 straight divisions win how come the Braves only got the world series in 95? They have had many good teams with some of the best pitching (Maddux, Smoltz, Glavine, Avery, Millwood) yet they cant seem to win in post season.
wouldn't be surprised if they win it all in a year when you least expect them to...it's just about the best organization in baseball, and they seem to be able to lose all star quality players, and replace them easily. the front office seems to be a great judge of talent.
Certainly no one expects them to win this year...the Cardinals will pretty much be the favorites... but it might be that the Braves will like being the underdog for a change instead of always being the favorite.

I have mixed feelings about the Braves. With guys like Chipper Jones, Andruw Jones, an owner like Ted Turner, I like the franchise. But Greg Maddux's entire career is a fraud. He's a decent pitcher, but he was by far the biggest benefactor of umpires who would gerrymander their strike zones so that a hitter had no idea what to swing at. as i recall the strike zone was getting a little loopy for everyone not just the braves pitchers

I remember Atlanta's first pennant (of those 13) was in '92, right? They made it to series to play the Mighty Toronto Blue Jays who won their first of two straight World Series! When will those days return?!

The Braves did lose to Toronto in '92, and then Toronto won again in 93, beating the Phillies....

Yes, the strike zone was getting loopy for everyone, you fascist racist un-American lout. He and by extension the Braves just benefitted from it the most.
Back in the 60s and 70s when I first started following baseball, the strike zone was defined by the rules as the area above home plate between the batters knees and shoulders...
Now, it's like the strike zone is defined as "the central 2 inches of home plate, between the top of the players belt buckle, and the bottom of the players belt buckle". I expect to see this definition in the official rules any day now...
Although, a few pitchers do get away with a much larger strike zone, most pitchers have to put the ball right down the middle to get a strike called...it's ridiculous... Pitches right down the middle at the players belly button are being called "high".
Just one of several reasons that offensive totals are up during this era, where an E.R.A. under 4.50 is considered acceptable, and pitchers with an E.R.A. of 4.00 are considered quality pitchers.
