It seems now the incredible volume of conspiracy theory seems to me to be reducing the average IQ of the human race to such an extent they don't even know they have been infected and become part of some group or other or some cult or other, everyone knowing all about this stuff because of the internet.
We don't HAVE to have Terminator, the internet is doing just fine all by itself.
All you have to do is look at the divisiveness in the US and around the world, all in the last 20 years or so, strangely enough about the time of the introduction of the internet.
Coincidence?
@sonhouse saidNo. The internet itself won’t kill civilisation.

This also explains why attention spans are becoming shorter, as people skip from one site to another whenever the mood strikes them. Resulting in changes of habits. i.e. 9 ball is now more popular than straight pool, blitz chess is now more popular than standard time controls and so forth.
There is some good news though. Despite all things you mentioned, people do have a talent for adapting. A minimalist lifestyle is growing in popularity. Reading real (non electronic) books, limiting of one's wardrobe, possessions, minimizing exposure to the internet, and a generally simpler life is becoming more and more popular in these days of (dis)information overload. 🙂

@sonhouse saidThe internet will eventually liberate civilization. I might take a while though.
