Over 1000 trapped as ships stuck in Baltic ice
Nearly 1,100 people were trapped on two passenger ferries and two cargo ships that got stuck in ice in the Baltic Sea.

Published: 9:44PM GMT 04 Mar 2010

The ships got into difficulties off Sweden's east coast, and rescuers were on standby to evacuate them if needed, officials said.

It is reportedly the worst Baltic freeze for 15 years.

The Swedish Maritime Administration said that ice breakers in the area were trying to free the ships, but gale-force winds were hampering the effort.

"As soon as they break the ice it freezes over again," sea rescue spokesman Peter Lindquist said.

In Cape Town, unseasonably hot over here.

See there's not enough global warming for everyone.

Who's the heat hog in Antarctica? Enquiring minds demand the truth.

Silly fellow, the global warming is causing the global cooling. You know, it causes all this eradic weather that we have like hurricanes and tornadoes and snow and deep freezes. Of course, if it were not for global warming it would stay a predictable temperature between 70-75 degrees F and rain a mild mist about every other day. However, because of those evil wretched oil companies we now have all this unpredictable weather.
