WWIII will happen in the next 30 years. Here are some of my predictions that will come into play for WWIII:
1) Pakistani-Indian relations will have gotten so bad there will be nukes launched. This would drag the whole world into the battle. Every country using the chaos and open opportunity to unleash their military domination plans.
2) Land, water, oil. The three top things that will start this war. What's going to happen when there is only 10% left of the worlds oil supply? I imagine a huge military rush to gain control...
3) Civil unrest in the USA and in other industrialized nations due to war, removal of rights and liberties, and extreme poverty.
4) China
5) Iran
6) Weakening USA power in the world.

The problem actually, to make this scenario real is trying to come up with who an appropriate loose affiliation of nations/ regions, that would adequately represent the rebel alliance? I mean while the Russians were having a go during the eighties/nineties it was easy enough to cast the Afghanistanis in that role.
Can anyone suggest a real world rebel alliance counterpoint to the US/UN/EU Empire?

According to some of my sources, and simply being observant, we're headed for a depression worse than the great depression. What brought the world out of the first great depression? WWII right? I've already heard various news outlets discussing this idea.
I won't even bother trying to predict how or when. But there are a couple of recent events that could further contribute.
- The Mumbai Attacks -
After the attacks in Mumbai being attributed to Pakistani nationals, India is out for justice in much the same way the U.S was in the wake of Sept 11. The U.S invasion of Afghanistan was justified by the aim of bringing terrorists to justice. India might very well take a page out of this book and tensions between India and Pakistan will further escalate.
Then there's India and China - the two have been involved in border disputes and had resulting conflicts in the past. Economically India and China are two of the rising powers, it's quite likely that at some point they will face off again.
The U.S is slowly being crippled by the economic crisis. The solutions being presented are like injecting steroids into the leg of a sportsman with a knee problem - it might make the pain go away and allow play to continue in the short term, but the core issue isn't being addressed and soon enough will lead to the injury being crippling. With further economic instability in the U.S civil unrest will increase possibly leading to a declaration of martial law and internal conflicts. Couple this with their troops being bogged down in both Iraq and Afghanistan and then consider the role they might play in a global conflict - minimal.
These are just a few things I've been giving thought-nothing conclusive.

WWII did not end.
It has continued and flourished in unrelenting conflict and violence ever since, most notably in the Middle East. I see the Israeli-Arab conflict as an extension of WWII. It is directly caused by WWII and the battle has raged constantly since, and sixty years later there is still no resolution or end in sight.
Just because the Western powers are blind, and only see 'peace' as it relates to their own illusion of peace and security, does not and will not make it so.

The world is always in conflict, that doesn't mean there's gonna be a world war, and the situation now in 2008 isn't that bad compared to (lets say) the late 60s, and they didn't have a war back then so why would we have a war now?

1. They're very civilized and bring peace, equality and happiness to all. Mankind will embark on a Golden Age previously unimagined.
2. They'll eat us.
Either way, problem solved.
