Few stations compare with MacArthur Park/Westlake. The station sits next to an open-air drug market that’s existed in this dense immigrant neighborhood for decades. About 22,000 people board the trains here daily.
Back in the day MacArthur Park was an open air black market but that was shut down decades ago.

@earl-of-trumps saidPoverty has won because we’re all to concerned about making billionaires richer. Despair leads to drug use in public.

@wildgrass saidI don't know what the solution is, wildgrass. If I had my hand in it I would be radical, and therefor not appreciated.
What's the solution earl?
But what I would try is this: Any of the "usual suspects" that is caught unconscious/sleeping on the train,
is promptly ejected, fingerprinted, photo'd, and eye scanned, and forever forward, facial recognition can be used
to identify such a person before they even enter transit property. Then, they are not permitted entry to the trains.
Wild, we as a society just can't give up and give the zombies the run of the mill on the transit trains, we just can't. this sucks

@athousandyoung saidyup, I remember it. How is Haight-Ashbury section doing?Few stations compare with MacArthur Park/Westlake. The station sits next to an open-air drug market that’s existed in this dense immigrant neighborhood for decades. About 22,000 people board the trains here daily.

It seems that the nice places that attract people get invaded by the druggies who turn it to ruin. Boston Gardens, same.

@athousandyoung said@athousandyoung , that is an entire barrel of doodoo, rife with biased politics, and I think even you know that.
Poverty has won because we’re all to concerned about making billionaires richer. Despair leads to drug use in public.
If what you say is close to correct, we'd have seen this growing up (you and I).
C'mon, dude, the ethnics people -afros included, are poorer than whites but you'll see that most druggies are white,
and I know white druggies that grew up in good homes, not poor. I'll consider you post a paid political announcement. 🙂
@earl-of-trumps saidLast I saw Haight Ashbury has become a trendy shopping district with a vaguely “hippy” theme but that was decades ago

@athousandyoung saidSounds like the Zombies took over MacArthur Park too - at some point.

The song has nothing to do with the topic other than it was inspired by MacArthur Park.
This would be par for the course, if it is nice, the Zombies destroy it.

MacArthur Park became known for violence after 1985 when prostitution, drug dealing, shoot-outs, and the occasional rumored drowning became commonplace, with as many as 30 murders in 1990.[17] When the lake was drained in 1973 and 1978, hundreds of handguns and other firearms were found disposed of in the lake.

@athousandyoung saidUh oh, if they improve things that will improve local property values, drive up demand and therefore prices and that's a bad thing??

They should let the homeless return ASAP to get real estate prices, umm, under control.

First of all the homeless are already there. What would your "improving things" mean for these homeless? Prison? Have them live in a different park?
Truly improving things would mean increased taxes funding housing and jobs programs so the homeless wouldn't be homeless any more.
