It’s in Dutch, so you’ll have to google translate it, I’m afraid.
It’s interesting though.
The Forum voor Democratie (Dutch extreme-right wing party: generally shortened to FvD) invited David Icke to speak at a demonstration in Amsterdam.
And the Dutch immigration authority (IND) slapped a two year ban on him: persona non grata.
Why?
Because he’s a conspiracy theorist.
How interesting is that?
Baudet (the leader of the FvD) was banned from parliament (his party has 8 seats) for misconduct last month (a 1 week ban) and he did some sort of vlog where he went on a rant about lizard people controlling the planet.
I remember watching a documentary on this in the 1980’s called “V”… (that’s a joke MB… ).
Anyhoo… David Icke is a conspiracy nut who also believes in these lizard aliens (seriously, if this was a film plot, you’d roll your eyes and leave the cinema) and lots of other mad-hatter things as well (like he’s the Son of God, templers, brotherhood of the snake… Christ only knows… and I ain’t joking).
So, the IND have banned him, because of the current climate: the aggression towards politicians and his speeches rile people up by dehumanising politicians. And the fact that his safety and the safety of others couldn’t be guaranteed, because of hardening rhetoric and threats from various groups.
Icke posted the letter he received on his website stating that he’s been cancelled by the Dutch fascist regime.
The Dutch government and IND have declared that the letter is real, but won’t comment on an individual situation.
A few years ago, Steven Anderson was banned from the Netherlands as well. He was preaching that gay people should be executed.
Should authorities have the power to ban conspiracy nuts from entering a country?
What sort of people, if any, should a government be allowed to ban?
@shavixmir
Why would you want to ban someone who does a fine job of discrediting himself when he speaks? Is he including some factual thing as well that irritates someone? He does have a good knowledge of royal bloodlines and how they are interconnected throughout Europe. Is he talking about the Dutch monarchy's fascist roots or something like that?
@metal-brain saidI don’t know. He was banned.

Not, however, that I would have went to see him anyways. The man’s a loon.
@shavixmir saidAs a simple baseline I'd say if it's legal for a citizen to say then a visitor should be able to too.

From that position one could debate things like objective incitement and defamation, but it would apply to all. This idea that because you happen to be passing through an airport you give up rights needs to be challenged.
@shavixmir saidWasn't Karl Marx banned from Germany?
I don’t know. He was banned.

People should ask why he was banned. Loons are not threatening. Nobody believes them unless they are including inconvenient facts when they speak.
My guess is he was bringing up unflattering historical facts.

@kewpie saidNo election was ever contested on the policy "Should David Icke be allowed to enter the country"
He has a right to talk nonsense.
The elected government of any country has the right, given to them by the voters, to refuse entry to anyone they choose. If he can't deal with that, it's his problem, not the country's problem.
What you get to vote on: Should goobermint grow a lot, or almost a lot.
The army of power tripping little hitler immigration bureauRats come either way.
@shavixmir saidI remember icke and his mental break from popular sports commentator to anti lizard people warrior stroke second coming and thought he was loopy enough to be harmless but the guy you mentioned that wants to execute gay people is a hate speech merchant and should probably be banned in any civilised country. If that was a crazy imam or an isis road show saying the same we’d want him locked up in or deported from this country.

@metal-brain saidLol he was banned by the aristocratic ruling class because he advocated the violent overthrow of the aristocratic ruling class, the same reason many of us love him but it’s not rocket science or comparable to the decisions concerning free speech in modern day democracies
