I don't get it. On the one hand you seem to be against "socialism," but on the other you're against "scrapping" the winter fuel payments -- something of a socialistic policy if ever there was one.
Let me clear it up for you: Dive doesn't know what socialism is.

He probably subscribes to the usual right-wing definition: "Socialism is any government program that benefits someone else."

That's moronic. Labour is about as socialist as Trump is an intelligent, likeable fellow.

So the Nazis were socialists, because they called themselves "National Socialists"?

Next you'll be saying China is communist, which it isn't.

Using the word "socialist" as some sort of catch-all pejorative is just going to make you sound like a clown, or worse, AverageJoe. Do you really want to sound like American trailer trash? Or do the Brits call them caravan rubbish?

They are mistaken. They are using the word "socialist" for propaganda purposes, just as the Nazis did. That they've largely abandoned their socialistic roots is why they have been wandering the political wilderness for much of the time in recent decades.

A freebie might be, say, giving winter fuel subsidies for well-off pensioners who in no way need the subsidy. Introducing minimum eligibility requirements for such subsidies would be an example of eliminating a freebie.

I note that Labour is doing something to significantly bolster the NHS, long neglected by the Conservatives. That is a good thing.

Is Labour advocating for social ownership of the means of production?

No?

Right.
