I think this is just becoming rediculous. I've seen thread after thread started out in excitement due to helden's number of moves. But everyone seems so quick to criticize helden when he never did anything wrong except slack off on the job a bit. It's his choice of who he wants to play chess against, not ours. It's his choice of how much time he wants to spend on each move, not ours. I don't think it's right to judge him for not playing in the same fashion most of us do. His accomplishment isn't in the quality of his play, but the quantity. Neither the starter of this thread, nor helden himself ever claimed to playing a high quality of chess. So why are we on his case? It seems to me that it's a bit out of jealousy over all of the attention he receives. Yes, I think Chesire Cat was a better overall chess player. But this thread is simply about the number of moves.

Clearly helden enjoys the way he plays his chess, or else he wouldn't do it. I'm sure he doesn't just play all those games for the sake of seeing himself on the top of the moves list. If that was his motivation, he'd be a lot more of a public person than he is now. Let's just let him play his chess, congratulate him for his number of moves, and move on. What we're doing now is like reminding a recent graduate of his or her less than perfect grades.

I pretty much said the same thing except without all the words and stuff.

Some people still didn't get it, so I guess it was worth a try.

What I said wasn't to put helden's accomplishment down in anyway, it's extraordinary what he's doing and how fast he's doing it. And I never meant to say Cheshire Cat was a better chess player. As a matter of fact, helden beat me pretty good in a couple games. But, what I'm confused about is that he is a strong player, and he could probably play at the same rate to matter what rating he's playing and still have success aswell as high move count. Like in the 2 games where he beat me, he was moving amazingly fast it seemed and I was thinking and still got beat. But overall, like you said, it's his choice who he wants play.

So he fears to get to the top of the Map, but can't help doing it? Sounds like he might need a therapist. Or an English teacher. 😉

That is also true,
He deserves praise as he has put so much time into playing his games.
I'd say it's noteworthy, not praiseworthy. But each to his own.

The fact is that are many better chess players on the site than both the Cat or Helden, so does it really matter who was the best player for the purpose of MAP? I don't think so... Chesire Cat came second as MAP and in an irrelevant position rating-wise, Helden is first as MAP and in an irrelevant position rating-wise..
