Either yesterday, today or tomorrow is my tenth year anniversary here.
(It depends on where you look. Data is different on my forum info, profile info, and the date when I started my first game, which was game no. 18.)
The site has come a long way since I first stumbled upon it ten years ago! I'm looking forward to ten more.

hmm, what did we use before? at least altavista, yahoo... I still have a yahoo account from those days I think. 😀 *gasp*, I just remembered there was a time when gopher was the thing, pre www! 😀 during my first stint as a librarian. 🙂 oh, and the bbs scene...
wow, never really thought before how much things have changed.

Out of interest, how did you find out about the site?
I was using search engines to try and find chess sites on the web, and I came across RHP. I saw that it was correspondence chess but knew it had to be much faster than the old postal chess that I had tried a time or two in my younger days.
So I signed up for a membership and started a game. (It was game number 18) I didn't realize immediately that the site had just came online. I also didn't know that I was the first "outsider" to join up.
Most of the features we have now were not even available. Russ and Chris (Ruzzman/Ruzz and Chrismo in those days) put in a lot of time smoothing out the wrinkles and problems as we came across them and adding features and improvements.
There was no forum then but it did come along fairly soon. At first the only way to communicate was to send email or feedback directly to Russ or Chris. They would post information on the home page (sort of like a bulletin board) or send emails back to members, but the site did not have anything like the communication features we now have.
There also were no tournaments, clans, clubs, sieges, ladders, etc. All we had were regular correspondence games with members or "live" unrated games against the online rival chess program.
This link has been posted here a few times before. You can browse back and see a little of how things have evolved. It doesn't work real well for all the dates shown, but at least it's something.

You can't count your previous incarnations, only the one you're using now.
