(Keep in mind I'm doing this all from memory)- I think 308 shoots a wee bit flatter but doesn't have quite the power out at 300 yrds . If you're sighted in at 100 , you'll drop 4" at 200 , 8" at 300 , 15" at 400 . I can't remember if that's 180grn or 165grn , but I believe it's the 165 (Trophy Bonded Game King is the bullet I'm throwing). As I said I'm not one to take lots of long/high risk shots . Just about everything's going to be at 200 or less . So I sight in 2" high at 100yrd , so anything between 100-200 in the sweet spot .

Bow hunting is great , but I never know how to cook those bows so they don't turn out tough .

I use a 60 lb longbow. Love it! Have you ever tried rabbit hunting with a bow? It is a total blast.

.223 is illegal in my state to shoot deer. High velocity, just too light. We have a ton of heavy underbrush, so a 180gr 30-30 is perfect for those 50 to 100 yrd shots.

A little small I think... A fast bullet but tends to break up and shatter to early.
For deer a 7 mm Magnum is what I use, extremly fast shell, GREAT knock down power , very flat trajectory, 300 yards easy.
Try a .300 Winchester Magnum. It has even more of everthing a 7 MM Remington Magnum has.

Try key word search Remington, Winchester, Hornady ect. or go to a gun shop and look for a catalog from a gun and or ammunition company.

Is .223 to small for deer out to 100yards? I figure its acceptable as long as you have a clean, well placed shot and use appropriate ammo. I was think of using som Hornady TAP ammo.
I imagine it would be great to cull some feral cats in Wisconsin.

Any one out there in Wisconsin? I had heard this story on the news,
with cat lovers portesting the open season on these critters, just curious.

The 7 kicks enough for me thanks....I would like to have a .300 win mag tho. One of these days gonna go out west on a hunt. My hunting bud uses a .300 win mag and he loves it. It does seem like a good rifle.

Jesus man , what are you shooting , elephants ? You're not using that on antelope , are you ?
Seriously , my old teacher used to hand load his own 300 win's . He loved it . What grain / type bullet are you using for what game ?

PS - Where in Wyo are you ? I'm in NE Col , actually closer to Chey town than Denver .

Personally I like the Winchester Supreme 145 gr. ballistic tip. I've never tracked one any further than 40 yrds.
