If you were sent on an 8 year space mission and could only bring one song or single piece of music to listen to, what would it be?

Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 4

J. S. Bach, Matthäuspassion

Apart from it possibly being the best piece of music ever, I also get several hours of music instead of just one lousy song.

The Passion of Matthew?

Never heard of it. I'll check it out immediately!

Bach came to mind -- the palindromes, so to speak ... Timeless music would help in killing time.

Thomas Tallis would be another choice.

Be warned, he was as passionate as he was sinful.

I'm not very schooled in classical music, but I agree about the "timeless" quality that you speak of.
What is it, I wonder. The reason I picked Tchaikovsky is because for the last 10-15 years I've had
this theoretical question about 8 yrs in space and other songs come and go on my list but Tchai-man
has always been there. What makes Bach or Dvorak or Tchaikovsky timeless? I've always been
interested in that.

Oh , how about something from the Palace Brothers? They got this one song called
"Pulpit" , it's just one chord the whole way through.
