A good night's sleep

A good night's sleep

General

Clock

I ought to have had about 21,000 good night's sleeps but I certainly haven't.

How would one define it if you had one [aside from the statistical one doctors talk about] ? A long sleep can leave one groggy and slow to get going. Does anyone have unusual sleep patterns? Do any of you remember some of the most yearned-for, precious and gorgeously refreshing sleeps you've ever had?

Last week i was sick but i had to travel, up early, flight, waiting for an eternity (about 40 minutes) to get a visa. I arrived at 4pm and went straight to sleep, a solid 4 hours, got up, ate and back to bed... A further 10 hours. Bliss.

A good (night’s) sleep never ends by being startled awake by an alarm clock. A good (night’s) sleep ends when the sleeper wakens spontaneously and feels ready to start the day, fit and with a clear head.

This is correct and i find that if i wake before the alarm it's best to stay awake rather than go back to sleep.

If I wake up and see it's 4 am or later I will usually get up regardless of how few hours' sleep I've had.

I agree.

If your sleep is cut short for any reason, I recommend a nap later.

Oh sure, there are plenty of power naps in my daily schedule ~ although not every day. I sometimes work through the night till dawn and beyond but the repercussions are not dealt with by trying to sleep for 8 hours in the day: judicious power napping is the way.

One way to a good night's sleep is a clear conscience - it's like a soft pillow.

Totally agree. I am a confirmed Power Napper.

I have a total inability to shut off, so I take my sleep whenever it's on offer. It was a bit of a battle before I retired.

I take 1/2 sleeping tablet to convince myself that I am relaxed enough to fall asleep - I believe it's more psychological than medical, and then I sleep for at least 8 hours.

When one takes on the position of parent and pet owner the idea of a “good night’s sleep” vanishes.

I'm with moonbus, no alarm clock.
