I would like to invite Dave and Gil to make their case with one another
outside of the forums. In many ways it seems logical to work it out in
the forums as each of you on some level wants to protect the integrity
of the game, the site , and your reputation. I think each of you can
agree on at least that. The nature of the forums, for good or bad, is
that they invite others to join the conflict/chaos. I'm not sure much
more can be said, but I really do believe that the best hope of
resolution (and it may take time) is on a personal and private level.
Nobody likes having their dirty laundry aired. Let me try again as I
made an assumption that everyone would know what that meant.
Nobody likes feeling exposed. Each of you deserves the right to work
it out without popular opinion being the measure of "who's right." I
wish you both well and know that the vast majority of the site wants
integrity at all levels, the game, the site, but each of you matter more
than pieces on the board or w/l/d. Good luck, Kirk
Tremendous post Kirk.
I would very much like to see the forums return to a more usual state,
regardless of whether Dave and Gilbert want to pursue this through
email or whatever. Whether they both want to or not is for them to
decide and none of my business whatsover.
Seeing all these posts in the forum at the moment makes me realise
how much I miss what it was like, and that was only about 4 days ago!
Seems like a long time.
I miss Tim getting so passionate and excited about the Tour de
France, Tony's infectious enthusaism and going Whoooo!, Andrew
coming up with a new poem, Dave telling wonderfully well-told chess
stories from the past and present, wWarrior saying he's off to a lecture
on the "NimzoIndianBenkoSicilianCounterGambit with 4. Nc3", Kirk
conjuring one liners that make me smile, Maggoteer making hilarious
posts.
John's counting down to 50,000 and everyone's bickering. It just
doesn't feel right to me.

What idyllic state are you talking about? This IS the usual state of affairs in the forums. There
have always been brief periods of calm followed by the same old accusations of cheating and
mudslinging, just with different names inserted in each new round. You've been here long enough
to remember the brouhaha with Xenophobe, the Babe vs. StevenS ballyhoo, the ridiculous
gasconading of Baron von Muchhausen, and others flare ups which escape my memory. This new
incident is just the latest installment in the long running RHP soap opera. Most people think of
time as being linear in fashion, where we progress from point A to point B. but in practice it seems
to be more cyclical in nature, with the same errors and strife being re-enacted with predictable
regularity. What would be needed to alter this cycle is not a change in RHP, but a change in human
nature.
