Presumably, but whatever you hunt, if you hit it hard enough to knock it out, that boomerang isn't going to come back to you.

kangaroo and wallaby mainly. (But with so many different "countries" connected only by creation mythology only) I suspect there would have been many different ways to hunt
I can't think of any other animals they would hunt with boomerangs.

The coast dwelling indigenous folk used spears and nets(with the aid of dolphins!! ) to hunt with.
