The problem today is not that those convicted sexual abusers are living blocks away from their favourite prey. The problem is that they're not given a chance to change. What happens to a convicted sexual abuser?

1) They're sentenced to a prison. The best place in the world if you want to hone your skills in whatever criminal profession you have.
2) Then ...[text shortened]... hat else, and they won't be able to commit the crimes a new.

Just a suggestion.
Problem is, can sex offenders be fully rehabilitated? The only way I've heard of it is really chemical or surgical castration (and even sometimes that doesn't work). And I mean, how long would it take for someone to change your sexual preference?

i would think that someone chemically or surgically castrated would no longer have a need to offend. these people get a name and then they are forced to live by it. i think it cuts both ways for those people to change, which makes me ask the question of how much of the rehabilitation problem is because of society.

Don't know what you mean there; but these pervs don't HAVE to keep offending, they do it because they like it.

Maybe there are a very small minority who are seriously mentally ill and can't help themselves - but the majority have a choice and hence get their just deserts when captured. [or if they dont, they should]

i think pedophiles when sent to prison would just meet up with other similar caracters and find they get accepted in a non-judgmental way. therefore the worst people who add fire to their mental illness become the ones they trust instead of those that should be there to help them. instead of society helping them.

why would they want to change, when they only going to get hated anyway? heres' a question for you people. how much of their fantasy is due to escaping from the reality you give them. as stupid as this sounds just maybe some children who have been abused or raped have been abused or raped indirectly because of you?????😵

you see most of you people think you know every God-damn thing, yet your own pride seems important than the children at risk. i basically just think you should take more time to consider how you approach topics like this, if you really do care for any good changes to be made. i think the best change would be made through societies' change.

Criminals don't just continue being criminals because they are going to be hated even if they stop.
They should want to change because it's illegal and antisocial and hurts other people.

The only reason to change is if what you do hurts people. I have no problem with antisocial and criminal people so long as they don't go about hurting others.

When I say they should want to change because it's illegal, I mean it as a reason THEY might have for wanting to change, being that they may get sent to prison if they don't.

In my experience, having punishments for deterrent reasons doesn't really work. Some criminals (like homeless thiefs) has to do what they do to survive. Other criminals does what they do whatever possible punishment they might receive if caught.

In some backwater countries (like parts of the US) there are still death penalties. But does that change anything? No, there are still murderers, rapists and child molestors out there. And some are innocent when sentenced to death, only to be cleared after the sentence has been executed.

The common idea among criminals is not that they may get caught, but that they won't get caught. So, no matter what the potential punishment is, they will still commit their crimes.
