I think I have been a bit UK centric, so here is something from the other side of the pond. It must be at least 30-35 years since I last saw this, but I could still remember the scene where Linus walks out onto stage and explains the meaning of Christmas.

Apparently, the producers thought this was going to be a disaster, with its rather slow storyline, jazz soundtrack and clunky animation. But as something pointing a finger at the commercialisation of Christmas, it sort of makes a point.

I know grown men who make a point of pulling out the DVD of this and watching it every Christmas.

They had a point, really. Wonky, and about as subtle as a sledge hammer. It would never be a success on this side of the pond, that's for sure. In fact, the only thing I've ever seen which came close in animation style, music, and forced application of message, are ZdenΔ›k Miler's Little Mole films. And even those were not nearly as blatant about their message - and they were from Communist Czechoslovakia!

Mind you, I'm not sure that Christmas Eastenders is much better. Or Sissi, for that matter.

You sounded as though you weren't quite in the Christmas mood, Ebenezer.

Yeah... unfortunately, neither do most people. I must commend Mr. Outsider for featuring a good dose of antidote in this series.
