Those little keypads are a pain in the butt for sure. I see a photo on your profile, some kind of tower, is that a ham tower? Not enough resolution to tell for sure, but it looks like ladder line leading away from it.

Very cool! My call is AI3N, I have a tower, 70 feet, still sitting in the yard waiting for me to put it up, with a tri bander. In the meantime, I have a little Icom 706, about 100 watts which works pretty well. I have a Collins KWM2A and the little amp that goes with it but haven't fired up the amp for fear of upsetting the neighbors. I just use a dipole up at about 40 feet for now. Wind blew it down so have to get out the sling and get it back up. Weather has been horrid here for that kind of thing though, this year. Seeing the ladder line indicates to me you are active on the low bands, 20 meters?

When you say full backup coastguard base, is that something you got off the surplus market or are you in the coastguard?

I tried the Swype thing and it actually helped a lot.
