Just for the sake of comparing notes. I know I can't take much credit for having occurred or for how I have turned out so far, although of course I might have had a few choices along the way.
By then I had lived in a few small towns in southern Michigan, going west to east, from the Chicago area to I-75.
Met my first boy-love (it wouldn't have worked out) just before we moved to Florida.
Pretty much destined to be a magician because of Mark Wilson's Magic Circus, and then one day at the local playground a girl about my age asked me if I had read Bradbury's Martian Chronicles.
Magic catalogs, dirt bombs, sparklers, fireflies, tie-dye, interracial junior-high "rumbles" after school, "Age of Aquarius" (this was in 1972).
When we moved from Monroe, MI to Winter Haven, FL in 1972, it was cool to notice how much less racial tension there was at the time, compared to Monroe (which is right on I-75 and pretty close to Detroit).
Of course, by the age of 14 in 1974 I thought I would be a science-fiction writer.
@kevin-eleven saidTwelve can be a rough age.

I changed schools when I was 12 and, as the new kid, was pretty regularly picked on. Also developed my first crush at 12.
Wish I could live that age over again knowing what I know now and not caring what people think.
@pb1022 saidI had changed schools a few times before age 12, had my first crush at 12, and changed schools two or three times after that (not for military reasons, which is usually the first question). So pretty much an outsider for a white guy.

And I was a gay teen in the USA in the late 70s when it wasn't safe to be "out" (I was cool with being a guy who liked guys but I sussed that no one else in the vicinity would be cool with that) – but on the other hand I didn't go out in the first wave of AIDS deaths.
@kevin-eleven saidcool post. gave it a thumbs up.

@executioner-brand saidThank you. And I hope you know that even though I might talk back to you once in a while, I am generally on your side.

@kevin-eleven saidI was enrolled in an all boys’ school before I switched for grade seven to a co-ed school and sometimes (actually rarely) wonder if I would have become gay had I stayed at the all boys’ school. I had developed romantic feelings for one of the boys at the school the last year I was there, and maybe that’s why my parents switched me to a co-ed school.

BTW, I don’t buy that homosexuality is hard-wired into somebody at birth. I think it’s really a nature and nurture thing, and I think nurture (environment) plays a big part in determining someone’s sexual orientation.
@contenchess saidNot exactly, but aren't you nearly gay just from being a Canadian guy? π (sorry)
This thread is so gay π
Also, this thread is about stuff that was going on at age 12, for whoever wants to post that.
@kevin-eleven saidDo you think homosexuality is entirely genetic?

Or do you think nurture plays a role?

Do you think I am under the control of Arcturian Spider Crystals, the scores of Ligeti, or Stapledonian echoes from the outer planets of our local system?
Do not believe that you can toy with me, for you cannot!
@Kevin-Eleven
12 is a rough age: just discovering who and what one is, not sure whom to trust, not sure of one's own identity. Good posts, Kev.
@moonbus saidIt was half a century ago, and I was just riffing off an exchange I had with someone in another thread.

Are you mocking me?
@kevin-eleven saidNot at all. TU from me.

@kevin-eleven saidBy the time a man (or woman) gets to be 60 plus years old I would think they should be taking at least 90% responsibility for how they have turned out. Not doing so encourages victim-think and disinhibition. Something we see from you on occasion Keven Eleven.
