Anything on top of that is calculation and diplomacy, without which you are doomed. The more time you put in the better. You can vary the amount of time you put in per week depending on how much time you have.

As the game progresses you send more and longer emails as you work out how to work your troops with an ally's troops.
I spend about an hour to an hour and a half on the game and emailing in other games per week that are above turn 10 ... but I type slower than a fingerless person.
(edit: The hour to hour and a half per week game has a bit of emailing going on. In another game there's almost no contact with the other players so that's a 10 minute/week effort)

When we get 18 we have the option of having assigned starting nations or random - what do people prefer? - pleae be aware royalty get preference on starting nations if 2 or more people choose the same.
