@Paul-Martin saidAre you sure this isn't just some conservative provincial government, like the red state governors here?
I'm very disappointed with Canada!

Books banned in schools include
The Handmaid's Tale
1984
Brave New World
What on earth is going on?
This can't be nationwide.
Are they blacklisted in the entire library network? Or may students request an online copy or reissued order upon signed consent by their parents? In that sense, it's only curating a strata of books, designated too mature and making it easier for others selecting. Are they not permitted on school grounds, or just not on the curated shelves?
Update, please acknowledge: the school board misinterpreted an order set down so the governing agent removed its directive to digitally catalogue books, thus the library may keep outside books. They clarified that only explicit images or pornographic illustrations are banned, not written, erotic, sexual language. One question was raised about cartoons, pushing a fine line. Presumably, concessions are made for medical depictions, anatomy stuff and classic art but I wouldn't categorize such as cartoon, like the lesbian lobby pushes it seems. It's a real bottleneck of information to go thru.
@Of-Ants-and-Imps saidFor people so concerned about "censorship", it's disappointing that they would consider book banning "okay".

As Ms. Atwood said, book burning is next. And we know what government was a fan of that.
