This banter doesn't address the content of the post you are ostensibly replying to.

My buddies (if I had them) would never gloat about driving a stranger into a "forum meltdown".

There is no "obsession". There is just the issue of what the word "buddy" really means and, by extension, what "close" means in the context of friendship. If it's not something you personally want to chat about, don't worry about it.

It's what me and Ponderable and torunn and divegeester and Gertrude ended up talking about on this thread ~ such is the nature of the General Forum ~ so you'll just have to come to terms with that I suppose.

Yeah, right. I might just do that. Thanks for your advice.

I don't think I did. You are mistaken.

When new exchange students from overseas arrive at a university here they are assigned a "buddy" ~ a local student here in their third semester ~ who shows them around and answers questions on their first day. After that, they usually hardly ever run into each other again as they attend different lectures.

I don't think this thread has been destroyed at all. But I accept that you are repeatedly saying that you think it has. If you want to address what Gertrude said about "buddies" in his OP/thread title, then feel free to do so.
