How do you (or shouldn't you?) say in a polite way, that your opponent should give up?

I was told I should resign once.... and it was true and I was waiting for the guy to kill the one pawn... and he said so... doubt he believed I was going to resign after that pawn was killed.... but that was what I was waiting for.
What is the game number? Or just message me if you don't want the whole world to know.

EDIT Are you talking about the game with the cat and mouse in your profile pic???

I agree.
My opponent, or we both could learn from it.
An exception to consider: when the game is holding up a tournament or a clan match (which is not the case in our games, Olav, so keep playing).
Mephisto.
To the world: He's trashing me!😕

p.s. I wasn't thinking of that learning stuff....:p
Originally posted by LivingLegendI'm finishing up a game with someone who wanted to play until the bitter end. I can understand it that people want to learn how to play an endgame but it can be a bit frustrating. He has been very kind in that he is moving quickly but I have had people move very slowly in a lost position.

I usually start with "You don't really want to continue do you?"
Then I use "I'm going to play xyz and there is nothing you can do to stop me."
If that doesn't work then I politely finish the game.
The Nut
(No offense to the guy I'm playing right now. I understand that you want to see it played out. 😉)

Well, I was sailing for a week, and a few people decided to speed up the process in the tournaments...😀

I'm not quite sure if someone already said this (because I only read the first part of every post 😉), but I have a good reason not to say it. It is from MY experiences. Because I am rated low, many people want to play me. I have played several people (one in particular) that have told me to resign. I do not like resigning. I have always had trouble checkmating people (which a certain SOMEONE on this site was supposed to help me with...but was never in the mood. YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE)..Sorry about that last part, it was a little of subject..Anyway! I've always had trouble putting people in mate, so I enjoy watching people put me in mate (isn't that sick?!), so I can study and see what they've done. Anyway, all this to say: When someone tells someone else to resign a game (it doesn't matter how nice they ask), the person that has been asked to resign will more than likely get offended...Just my thought (or thoughtS, just depends on how you think about it).

Don't you dare put yourself down. You're a great person and I always enjoy our games. I'm just not good enough at the game to be of any help to you. 🙂
You can play as many games against me as you want and play them to the end. I realize some people get frustrated with those who play on despite the obvious outcome, but I enjoy the game so much I like to go all the way to the end.
Of course, if a person deliberately prolongs a lost game by only moving once in the agreed upon time period then that is wrong also.

Here is a web site that will help you more than most people would be able to help you in a game. Now it is up to you to learn everything there.... your rating will go up if you stick to these rules....
