so the only reason you could fear someone else's sexual preference, is that you're actually fearing you also have it in you. which can only happen if you already recognize something like that in you. because if you didn't, you'd be indifferent towards it. just like being offered strawberries wouldn't make you suddenly like them, if you didn't already like them.
and if you find out you like strawberries just a bit, but oranges hugely more, so what? what's there to be afraid about that? it's like being afraid of a dark birthmark on your otherwise pale skin. you're still mostly pale, but the darker patch isn't going to go away. not even if you hide it.
