my paranoia:

after going to the dentist and having a couple fillings and the dentist says "you can eat straight away", i think that he's trying to get me to eat to ruin the brand new fillings so he can make more money next time i come back for a check up.

Don't know that that's paranoia. Not so far fetched really, considering some dentists purposely grind off the protective enamel of your teeth, to create future income security.
