Landis's first sample indicated a high amount of testosterone. So the second sample is tested. What many people don't realize is that the second test is different. They test to see if it contains synthetic testosterone. It did. Therefore there can be no doubt that Landis cheated.
It's not a matter of just an elevated level now, it's actually provable th ...[text shortened]... ed to the same tests. Landis wasn't singled out, he singled himself out by getting caught.

The Ben Johnson article is interesting, as it advocates the blanket use of performance-enhancing drugs. Whilst it would give people like me more of a chance of a job, it could potentially result in the best chemists effectively "winning" the medals for their athletes.
Olympic sports could become something akin to Formula 1, in which the driver with the best car will consistently come out on top, reducing the 'competition' element to 2-3 people. In the case of Olympic events, it is likely that the cream will be unable to rise to the top, and only those athletes linked to the top companies will win.
With the credibility of many sports called into doubt at this time, the question concerning the use of enhancers is one that the authorities in each sport will eventually have to face. I cautiously support the introduction, as sport is already becoming a laughing stock
Although I intensely dislike the idea, it would allow athletes to push beyond their natural potential, as well as enter sport into a new phase.
Landis broke the rules though, he and his ilk are ruining sport.

That's basically performance enhancing as well, isn't it?

What I want to know is if there is an anti-american jihad going on, since the french have been unstintingly against Lance since he started. So have they singled out Landis as Armstrongs successor and therefore will stop at nothing to get him discredited? I would like to know whether in all sports what these testosterone levels are, that is to say are there ...[text shortened]... andis? Surely there is a bell curve and I would like to see the probabilities of various levels.
Like I said, some people are defensive about cycling and still see Americans and Aussies as imposters. There may be no witch hunt as such but when there is a sniff of something a lot of people start inhaling vigorously all at the same time. Then it gets blown out of proportion.
I believe Lance Armstrong was quoted recently as having commented on the French football team's world cup final performance...
"All their players tested positive... for being ass holes."
Made me laugh but if he says things like that it's little wonder they're not his biggest fans.

I suppose the French have rigged Justin Gatlin's drug tests as well!!!!!
He got caught out, he should face his punishment like a man, but predictably he's called in the lawyers.

What is it with these sports people anyways?
How come they get better drugs than me?
Here is one of the pieces about Landis and cycling, Toronto:

Sorry its so long, have to learn the tiny url trick.
My guess is the next level of doping will be gene doping, where you genetically modify all your muscles to get the same improvements as steroids but harder, much harder, to detect. I think the only way they can detect gene doping is to have an early DNA sample of the athlete, say when he was 10 or so, presumably before he had the gene doping done. That leads to another speculation. Suppose someone like Landis has one of his own children gene doped as a fetus? How would anyone detect that? I can see it now, Landis is permanently banned, but gets back at the cycling world by gene doping a son before birth and twenty years later his son wins the Tour. How's THAT for a scenerio?
BTW did the 'therapist rubbing steroids' defense work? What if they got the therapist to corroborate the story, true or false. Wouldn't it work out they would say we don't care where and if he didn't know about the steroids, Landis has them, unknowingly or not, his coach should have spotted it and stopped the therapist, so he is out. Would that be the official response?
