Excuse the low-tech nature of this enquiry...

gmail is google's version of hotmail. It's a free online email server but you can only join by getting invited. This is probably to minimize the number of not-real-people holding accounts. They have amazing spam filtering (i've been on for over a year and have received no spam!!) and over 2 gigabytes of storage space.

I've used it for over a year and have had no problems..none. That's much more than can be said for hotmail or yahoo mail.
