Hello all,

I was in the park today, reading a book (yes it was chess😞) and i started to miss Paris! While i was there last year i discovered a park in the center of paris where the locals come together for a game. Yes, much like playing at RHP just without all the typing!

Well, seeing as London obviously hasn't got a place like this i thought i'd try and sow the seed. It is with this in mind that i'd like to suggest an casual tournament in a park somewhere (Regents park, Hyde park, that kind of thing). It could be the RHP live championship 😡

Does this sound like something people would be interested in? If there is a response i'd be happy to do a little organising. Post youre thoughts.....πŸ˜€

I'm in the other England... New England.

I hope you do get something going, I'd love to hear about it.

If you can get this going one or more times a year for a while... I am sure to come eventually!

lol, you could be the visiting master from over sea'sπŸ˜‰

Im really up for this. London has zero chess community! Maybe if πŸ˜‰we could get a few people meeting in the same place for a while it'll get a reputation. I've searched London high a low for a venue outside to no avail.

King's Head hold blitz tournaments every summer outside the Wargrave Arms (nr. Marble Arch), or inside if the weather is bad. Prizes in pints. Good pub, good guys, fun chess. Think their website is www.khcc.co.uk.

Problem with playing in parks in London is the lack of games tables. Paris, Vienna, and few other places usually have parks with tables for chess or draughts, where you can easily set a board up. Don't know anywhere similar in London.

BTW I'll be playing in the King's Head blitz tournaments during July and August when I am back in Blighty - be cool to know if anyone else from here is playing.

How about Kew gardens. Just an idea but I do love it there.
Sounds like fun, you can count me in.

great idea - I didn't know London was so lacking in chess life.

I won't be back in the UK for another 6-12 months so I'm of bugger all help at the moment, but if you get something started I'll join in then. Or if you haven't succeeded by then we can try again together.

Hackney Chess Club is often down the Rochester Castle pub in Stoke Newington on Saturday nights. Feel free to drop in.

Kew would suit me as I'm very near there and have never been! What dates are we looking at or have I missed this in the thread?
