My Norton has just expired, should I go ahead and resubscribe or are there any free and good anti virus systems out there?

Thanks in advance.

I use Kapersky but I think you have to pay for it.

Yearly subscription? You renew every year?

Or you buy it one for life time?

Here's a link to a page which lists a bunch. http://www.firewallguide.com/anti-virus.htm

I use AVG and although it might not have a bunch of cool features - if you pair it with common sense usage you will probably never see a virus again.

AVG protects you against many viruses and different forms of delivery of said viruses ie. Flash drives, email, etc.
So AVG says you are fully protected against viruses.

Your Norton product probably had a firewall module that turned off Windows firewall when it was installed.
For now, enable Windows firewall, but I would suggest you look into getting a third party firewall, like ZoneAlarm (www.zonealarm.com) which also has a free version.

Is there any disadvantages/advantages to turn firewall on?

You MUST have some form of protection in the form of a firewall, especially if you use the web alot and download and install anything you get off the web.
By all means, turn on Windows firewall, but like I said, get yourself a 3rd party software like ZoneAlarm. Windows firewall is not very effective.

A must is a must then. Merci.

NOD32 is the top performing antivirus and offers a 1 month free trial. With anti spyware protection too. Otherwise, there is bitdefender which is free and nearly as good for antivirus protection. AVG is also good but not quite as good. I've actually used and read the rviews on all 3.

If you use it, don't you know whether or not you had to pay for it?
