We have a rather ancient PC at home running under W98 aka steam driven.
AVG ant-virus free version was downloaded but when sinstalled and after a restart, the machine refuses to load windoze, and asks if you want to start in Safe Mode. Deleting AVG results in the machine booting up fully. We Have Nortin ant-virus on the machine, could this causing a conflict ?

Thanks,
from the patzer sub-basement

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. You'll never get rid of it.

If it's Norton, that is. But Nortin? Never heard of it.

AVG didn't much like McAfee either. Or was it vice versa? I uninstalled the second.

Get rid of the Norton on your windows 98 machine...you should only run norton on the new machines....AVG will run Win98 fine on it's own...but don't use both....you're using up way to much RAM

Almost certainly.

Either get rid of Norton or at least turn it off - it's a well known fact that you should only have one AV program running on a computer.

As mentioned, you may have difficulties removing Norton [if that's what you decide]
This uninstaller works well......sometimes.

My thanks to Buffalo Bill, uzless and Dr. Strangelove in particular.

We are fleeing basecamp for two weeks soon, the steam powered machine may have to wait for a little TLC.

BTW Students here , at northern university, are dumbfounded by c:\

Remove Norton. (It really slows pc down, especially an old one.)
Install AVG. Install Spybot. Install Adaware. Install Tweaknow. Install a free firewall. Everything covered.... and for free.
