I would imagine McDonalds rejected you because you are far too over-qualified for the job. They would presume you would last less than a week in the job. Anyway, with that CV you should aim a little bit higher I think!

Take it as a compliment.

If you are going for supermarket / shop style part time work they do not want dynamic qualified staff, they are after people who will do a boring job day after day for low pay and minimal stress.

A manager at McD's does not want staff who are more intelligent than him. TThey have read your CV and just decided you are not for them.

This is illegal. We all know people do it, but you can not refuse someone a job due to the fact that they are over qualified. You either meet the required standard or you do not, you can not legally be overqualified. To say you can not work as a dustman, for example, as you have a degree is the same as saying you can not be one as you are black - it is irelevant to the job.

If you want to have some fun, request to know why you were unsuitable for the position, and inquire what skills the person who was awarded the job had that you lacked. If they can not show tangible evidence to why were not awarded the position they are breaking the law.

I have just been doing a boring course on interviewing people and not breaking the law 🙁

Are you willing to wear a hat? Were you asked specifically about your hair in an interview?

I think most of you are missing the point here. He is applying for Personnel Managers jobs here....its not like he wants to cook your McChicken McFlurry Mcrib fries here (??). Therefore surely he isnt overqualified to do that. I would certainly employ someone on that experience. Surely your hair doesnt matter much if you are not customer facing.😏

is he applying to be a personelle manager? Or is trying to get a basement job and it's personelle managers that are reading his CV & rejecting it?

If it's any help, I worked at Keele service station in any spare holidays from 16 - 21 yo. At 16 they hored me because I was cheep and keen. The rest of the time they hired me because I was experienced, good, and cheep. However, some friends of mine wanted a job one summer so applied there. They said that they were quitting school (lie) and were looking for a job in the service sector that they could work their way up to management slowly. They got hired for more money than me, did a bad job & quit as soon as the holidays were over.

So it might be worthwhile toning down your CV to match the job you're going for and lying that it is your dream job & your going to work your ass off to progress up the ladder.

Well , I can offer some advise from an employers stance. If that CV was presented to me in that form it would go into the 'no way/never' tray. It it simply unprofessional.
For a start CV text is always centered, you changed the syntax three times and there are spelling and grammar errors. The headings are not bold and the entries should be in reverse chronology. It is also tooooo cluttered and confusing. It reads like a novel when it should read like a criterium.
Bottom line is no one is going to look twice at that CV in that form so you are probably not even making the first cut. Advise : spend the bucks and go to a professional CV writer and/or employment service .

I agree; even the spelling of 'personnel' is incorrect. 😞

In my experience a CV is just a tool to get you an interview. Then you're judged on the interview itself (a bit simplistic, I know).
If you're getting plenty of interviews, then your CV's ok. If you're getting interviews but you're not getting offers it might be something in how you do at interviews?

As RedMike says, a CV is a tool to get you interviewed. However, if your CV is badly presented and full of spelling mistakes then you won't get a look in. Saying "word didn't pick it up" is not an excuse. In my experience if a bad CV gets handed in then it usually goes through 2 processes.
1) It is shown around to all current members of staff who all have a good laugh.
2) It is then thrown in the bin.

One of the funniest CV's I ever saw had the following printed at the bottom under "Interests".

"I am a practising anarchist."

Needless to say he didn't get the job. The twat.

it's really sad that this practice still goes on, despite being illegal. i was rejected by NASA for their astronaut program, on the same grounds. 🙄
