I once got hung up in Space Quest 1 for 3 months! 😕 But then I found I had to get the broken glass to shut down the laser beams in the cave. Remember that?
moment, I would score every single point in the game.
Space Quest 1-4 and King's Quest 1-6 were a huge part of my game-
playing youth. I even remember the gnome's name (by the lean-to)
so I can get the beans rather than the key in the first game.
(Sad, I know...)

P.S., I also played Leisure Suit Larry 1, 5, and 6 (?), but didn't enjoy
them as much.

Those old Sierra games were the best! Remember the "Leisure Suit Larry" series? Good times.

I wanted to play the Space Quest series over again but for some reason it won't run on WinXP... 🙁
Anybody know how to fix that?
I had similar problems trying to play old games on new systems...bascially, the software is too slow for the new PC; so the only way to play it (that I know of) is to play it on an older machine.
Wow! This sure brings back some memories. I used to play all the old "quest" games from Sierra. I was rather fond of Kings Quest and Space Quest series games. Boy, back in the day Sierra was the best in my book.
EDIT: I know this really isn't legit and I don't blame people if they have a problem with this, but there are copies of the old games out there that will play on a modern system. They've been tweaked to account for the speed difference (some little program added to moderate speed). Of course, this is pirated and modified softward, so it isn't exactly....legal. 😉

Makes me feel old to hear that Sierra, once the greatest game producer on earth, is going out of business... :'(

Are you saying that I'll never be able to play these games on my existing computer? :'(

Well, they sure gave a lot of people some good times. You know, I'm pretty young. I grew up with console games and all that, but I have a lot of respect for the games Sierra made. They were for the intelligent mind. You had to really use the noodle to get throught those games, and they were so creative to book.
Next time I'm at the bar, I'm going to pour a little beer on the floor for my fallen homey Sierra. :'(
Originally posted by arrakisWell, there's a way to do it, but I'm not tech savvy enought to explain how its done. You have to run it through DOS and insert a few string of code that regulates the processing speed while the game is running.

You know, it's ironic. Back in the day when these games were current I could have written out a little trainer program for this sort of thing. Nowadays, I'm just trying to keep up with the general use of the newer software (and a new OS every three years doesn't help!).

Originally posted by arrakisI feel your pain my friend. I was a wizard untill everything went windows. (sigh) I remember the good 'ol days of DOS 6.0. That was about as user friendly as I ever wanted computers to go. If I wanted to do something, all I had to do was learn the right code and I was set to go. If there was something I didn't already know, it took about 5 min. to look it up. Piece of cake. Hell, 2 out of 3 times all I had to do to fix a bug was use a process of elimination using the REM command in the code. (sigh) I sure miss those days.

Nowadays, I spend an hour and a half trying to get a new screensaver installed. 😛 😠
User friendly my......(the very, very long rant about the evils of Windows here has been removed. In short, the term "user friendly" is subjective to the user, and Windows is anything BUT "user friendly" to an intelligent person of the old school of PCs.)

I had a hercules monitor (orange, black and white).
Try find the freaking "shrinking" mushroom in the fields in KQ1 when all you see are orange pixels...
