Don't worry everyone has to start somewhere. Your concerns are unfounded however, and your move is valid.

curses! well played! i didn't see that coming at all. I'm a bit rusty.

Someone asked earlier if using an A to Z map was cheating. Nah! that's fine... but don't be using one of those multi-map.com computer programmes... that just isn't cricket!

Well played indeed. I can't believe I left that open. And there I was busy worrying about the obtuse move on the next circuit...duh! It just shows the beauty of the game, so many levels.

How about we keep it simple to begin with, just play the Standard King George Version, No reversing, no triangulation and nothing lateral. I'll start us off with, Kings Cross
Squaccerman - what a great suggestion! Of course - the perfect antidote to the rigours of chess! I'm pleased to see so much good play too. Your standard King George version was of course the right starting place, but left the game prone to all this Luxembourg malarky - which I've seen before and don't like!

Can I tempt you into a second round with the Tavistock Variation, which of course precludes any European variations, and natuarally only applies in the western traingle.

I venture the bold Ladbroke Grove... (and no one go leaping in with Shepherd's Bush before you've checked the Tavistock Variation. You'd be immediately prone to triangulation!)

do we all want another game...i think so...if anyone else wants to play feel free to. if you dont know the rules just post a station and we will tell you if it complies with the rules. you'll get the hang of it eventually!! possibly the stronger players on the site...redlentils and squaccerman etc... could comment on their moves?

so ill start with euston...a strong opening using the helsinki advanced amendment, leaving me well positioned to counter any particularly strong attacks.

Not sure if the helsinki is allowed under Tavistock, but presuming it's OK I'll go for Pimlico, blocking your laterals.

hmmm you may be right about the helsinki but i believe its deemed acceptable while starting with euston. admittedly a very strong return with pimlico, what to reply with, laterals blocked?...no triangulation...would have to go with new cross. i believe thats a resonable return to pimlico under tavistok, nothing else really an acceptable to go for!

good move marcus.

Fred I think you're right about Helsinki from Euston, but it's a maverick line! Marcus, strong play with Pimlico. And the laterals! - a master-stroke!

I will try to bring stability, in accordance with the Norton Rules, with an early Wembley Park. Believe me, I think I'm potentially disadvantaged by this, but it opens up some possiblilities under Tavistock...

blackfriars. not sure this completely utilises the possibilities court chesster suggested however its cuts out the possibility of tibetan forced counter which would lead me to concede to victoria.

Reversals are allowed under Tavistock I believe, so I'll go srairfkcalb.

Edit: Now I am off for the evening to help Samantha find a chess set - she said something about needing a very energetic knight.

Well if we're going to play like that you leave me little alternative. Blackfriars.

It's totally in keeping with the tone of the game, but I don't like it all that much.

This could be a protracted affair if this goes on - a little Latimer Road opens up the western triangle though.

Perfect! Neatly avoiding the West End Bind, or Soho Bondage as it's sometimes known (samantha is an expert here).

Leads me to Baker Street, with good chances for all I think.

Nice. The inverse transfer's a strong move at this stage of the game. Warren St.
