What are you doing to prepare for this "60 year' storm?
I fixed a hole in the roof, big time leak.
Checked the 6000 watt generator, it works fine.
Have to get more gas for said generator.
Actually, our electric grid has been upgraded and when the whole east coast went down a few years ago our local grid had been upgraded and did not fall to the rolling blackout. Surprised me how reliable our power grid is here in the Allentown Pa area. Only had to fire up the generator a couple of times in 6 years since I bought it.
BTW, there is a little consumer scam going on that you might pick up on:
Buy a generator just before the storm, say at Lowes or Home Depot, wait till the storm dies down, take it back say you didn't like the color, can I have my money back. They have to give your money back.
I actually got a good deal on my generator because of that, some customer came in, returned it after a big storm threat that didn't pan out, so now it's used but the dude didn't even fire it up, so I got it 300 bucks off, originally 800 bucks, I got it for 500. It always starts right up. The key to keeping it reliable so it fires up every time: when you finish running it if you have to, keep it running but turn off the gas feed valve, let it die when it runs out of gas. That way the carburetor empties out completely and no petrol will collect and make a varnish that clogs the tiny lines.
Water covered, we have a 10,000 gallon above ground pool, it has chlorine tabs to keep it bacteria free, not the best in the world to drink but if your water goes out, there it is.
We have gone through 2 hurricanes here but they mostly poop out into just a tropical storm by the time it gets north of Philly.
So that's my big prep. What's yours? BTW, I have dozens of batteries and flashlights all the time so that's covered. And candles.
Originally posted by Very RustyAh, missed that. Yeah you would be in the line of fire, but when they get that far north, hurricanes usually are not anymore, just big storm. Of course that still has potential danger.
Just look below the hockey stick under my avatar.
You should see a location.
Why would I hang my hat in Toronto?
I liked Nova Scotia when we visited there, Isn't Digby there? I remember Digby. The scallop capital of the world! We were in scallop heaven there.
There was also a nice folk festival going on when we were there. You go there?

You couldn't have heard about Hurricane Juan that hit us back in 2003. It was certainly a big wake up call for us.

I was without power for 10 days, some people were longer. No one was really prepared as we thought it would blow out to sea as it usually did. I KNOW no one will EVER make that mistake again here.

I read your report. That was an awful storm for sure.

Less chance of a hurricane hitting TO than NS although NS is much more beautiful than is "The Center of the Universe" eh?
TO has enough problems with its tornadoes that seem to keep getting bigger and doing more damage.
BTW: Did you go see Jack?
Originally posted by Grampy BobbyYou ever get to Gloucester? I have friends there and there is an ion implant outfit there by the name of Extrion which was bought out by Varian and then to my dismay, abandoned by Varian and we all got layed off in Allentown, Pa. It's Extrion again.
Calm and sunny Friday but locals bracing for 80+ mph winds today... according to
family an hour west of Boston. Beantown's seen much worse in recent memory.

Did you ever see the Mimi? I think that's where Ben Affleck got his start.
I knew some of the crew, Chicky Marston for one and Peter Marston, el capitan.
Jeez, what a sad tale for the Mimi:
