One of the formats the kindle 2nd gen uses is AZW among others like PDF.
A lot of books are out there in PDF format and I found one and downloaded it to my comp and the kindle reads it fine. The problem is this device is for my wife who needs to be able to make the font larger and PDF does not have that feature.

So I looked for a PDF to AZW converter and found one called Mobipocket creator publisher edition, downloaded that because of a post I found through google that says to use that software and go to settings and choose AZW output after importing the PDF.

Problem is, I don't see any way to choose an output format in that software. I emailed the mobi bunch but won't see an answer for several days.

So in the meantime, does anyone here have experience with the kindle and converting formats to kindle speak? Especially PDF to AZW.

I don't want to be tied to Amazon for conversion since there are hundreds of thousands of ebooks outside the Amazon world and Amazon charges 14 cents a meg to convert.

So do I but my wife just had both knee's replaced and is out of commission for about 3 months and can't read small print right now so the kindle is great from that standpoint, it allows every book to have larger print unless it's presenting something in PDF which is what you see is what you get, no adjustments allowed.

Ouch!

I hope she is feeling good and that the recovery is prompt, man.

So, could I ask how much did it cost per knee?

A loved one is facing the same possibility and I was wondering
if it will be necessary to chip in.

I don't know how much it cost, sorry. Our insurance paid 100%.

Your eyes must still be young! I love my Kindle! I can read books again (not just kids' books).

Just got what may be the final bill, it was over 10 thou, we had to pay about 50 bucks.
Not sure if that is the full total, will see in the next few weeks for sure.
