I just loaded this Norton in my wife's comp and had nothing but
trouble with it. It took about 6 hours of work to get the computer
in any kind of normal state, then noticed the comp was running
a lot slower and the hard drive was whacking away constantly.
I used process viewer and everything was showing 0% CPU time
but something was running continuously. Then noticed could not
send Email, nice if you wanted to communicate with Norton, eh.
So I uninstalled it. That was an exercise that took more than
30 minutes just to uninstall. First all the norton crap itself uninstalled,
including a file I noticed went by "shopping help' or some such.
Then when it finally said it was done and needed a restart, I do that
only to find the prog called 'Norton Go-back" had to uninstall.
Why do we even need a go back function when we have system
restore in XP?
Well that one took almost 30 minutes to uninstall all by itself.
The length of time it took to uninstall shows by itself how invasive
this program is. I used older versions of norton systemworks without
all this crap. Is this the way these kind of programs are evolving?
Becoming more and more invasive? Looks like its back to simple
anti-virus stuff for me.

The machine's drive will now need reformatting. Or Norton will stick around.
Cor blimey! Don't you know better?
ADDITIONAL: Your wife should divorce you.
but this one sucks bigtime. I was told of a free anti-virus prog
I think called AGP or something like that, you know what it is?
Originally posted by sonhouseWhen I bought my comp., it came with one year of free Norton. When I tried to resubscribe, I ran into a myriad of problems. I went and subscribed to McAfee and am happy with their service. $30.00 something a year, and I'm happy.... You can get Free antivirus by googling for it, and a lot of it is reliable ( I used AVAST and Anti-Vir for a year or so and was generally happy), but you never know when they change format and leave you behind, and you have to manually update sometimes, but check it out...if you computer saavy, the free stuff might be all you need. Good luck..

Originally posted by sonhouseIf you are going to use Norton Systemworks only install the components you need. For example antivirus and defragmenter. In the past I have found (older versions) these products OK. But if you install everything be ready for a slowdown. With any antivirus it is worthwhile customizing what it scans. Why scan every file everytime it is written or read ?
