The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,

In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there;

St. Nicholas Day.

Lasst uns froh und munter sein
und uns recht von Herzen freun!
Lustig, lustig, trallerallera !
Bald ist Nikolausabend da,
bald ist Nikolausabend da!

Dann stell ich den Teller auf,
Nikolaus legt gewiß was drauf.
Lustig, lustig, trallerallera,
bald ist Nikolausabend da!

Wenn ich schlaf, dann träume ich,
jetzt bringt Nikolaus was für mich.
Lustig, lustig, trallerallera,
nun war Nikolausabend da!

Wenn ich aufgestanden bin,
lauf ich schnell zum Teller hin.
Lustig, lustig, trallerallera,
nun war Nikolausabend da!

Nikolaus ist ein braver Mann,
dem man nicht genug danken kann.
Lustig, lustig trallerallera,
heut war Nikolausabend da!

No, St. Nick's Day is the 6th. He comes the night of the 5th.

If the Immaculate Conception is the 8th, then how is Christmas the 5th? 😕

Never mind, I'll just have a drink and it will all be better in the morning.

Immaculate Conception is about Mary's conception, not her son's. The feast day of St. Nicholas (of Smyrna, I think) is the 6th. In some places, gifts are given that day. In some, they're given on Tres Reyes, Three Kings, which is in January. In some places they're given December 25th. 😀
