I get a fair bit of flattery here because of my social and professional standing. It makes me uncomfortable. I don't like it.

I was taught to thank someone if they paid me a compliment or praised me and not throw it back at them in a negative way.

How would I know if I was being flattered? Isn’t that on the part of the donator?

So if I was naive enough to believe that, which I imagine some young women desperate to get into the modelling world might be be, I’d have been unknowingly flattered because I thought his words were true.

I once dated a man who told me that he could see the beauty in a young man as well as in a young woman. Maybe he was just confident in admitting it or maybe he was trying to tell me something? This man also liked to take photos when we were out walking and he never ONCE took one of me 🙁

So you would initially suspect me of flattery or of giving you a genuine compliment?

And if you were suspicious does that mean that those people who are easily flattered show a more positive self esteem?
