That's simply not true, i know countless people through my chess club who have been playing and studying for decades and are not even close. 1800/1900 is achievable with lot's of effort, any higher and you also need to be gifted.

I'm 19 and have a 1800+ rating. Where's my groupies?

Some people are gifted. Fischer has a photographic memory and a 179 or so IQ. Sir Paul is a gifted composer. Michael Jordan, Franz Klommer, Babe Ruth, Richard Petty, Carl Lewis, Judy Garland, and test and ace fighter pilot General Charles Elwood Yeager, are a few more talented people.

Points get deducted for being such a scrotum. By my adjusted scrotum scale you have a roughly 975 rating.

I disagree, 2200 is very strong, most people reach a point where they can't improve any more long before 2200. 2000 is perhaps achievable by most, there is a lot of study involved though.
I agree with you. I think the top players have talent. Hard work can only take you as far as your talent level is. This is true for anything from golf to cooking to acting ect. There are those that may over achieve through hard work. Korchnoi is a over achiever?

Ayy???? How does someone fluke three world title matches? He happens to be one of my favourites, he was second in the world for a decade!

You'll be needing that Hand of Hecate for a good long time, my friend. Groupies don't go for losers.

(was a joke anyway, dummy)

You have to be good looking to get groupies.

Does anyone else find it quite amazing that ark13 is 15 with a 1800 rating? Isn't 1800 Expert level? Very nice.

Is chess skill more learned or more natural? I feel like I could study for years and not reach that kind of play.
He's a good player. Class A rating, but if he had a talent for the game he'd be rated in the Expert category by now, which is 2000+ . I'm not slurring him, in fact I've lost a game or two to him, but he's not a chess prodigy. 😕

Two 😉

Again, agreed. I'm not a chess prodigy at all. I'm a good player, with above average talent, but nothing too special.

I do not remember what I read about him. Sufice it to say he is not as talanted as the super GMs are. He was a hard working GM. Seems to me he had to work hard to get to the top. I am refering to the likes of Tal, Fischer, Botvinnik, Karpov and others as super GMs. I called him a over achiever. I did not call him a no talent bum.

Ah, but you didn't mention that you dropped a game to me as well! 🙂

I don't see what the problem would be. This place is full of overnight masters. They go from Being a 1200-1300 player getting kicked around the board by same rated players and then one night aliens land...probe their rear ends and they wake up to win win win. They have suddenly gained the chess knowledge of masters! Ark13 is not the only example of this instant overnight genious; it seems to happen to quite a few people. I just wish I could be so good.

Hail Ark13 and his chessliness!
