Not only did he saw the arm off, he applied a tourniquet (one-handed!), rappelled down a cliff, then hiked six miles before he found anyone to help him.

I remember when I sprained my ankle in the mall last year. Boy, did I scream.

From what I can surmise from the article (they don't explicitly say where he cut it off...and other reports have made it sound like he hacked off his entire arm), I think he cut off the arm at the thinnest point between the elbow and the wrist.

From the last news I heard about it, they said he cut it off just above the elbow.
also his pocket knife wasnt able to cut thru the bone so he had to break it. MAN that had to hurt, not only to you cut off your own arm but you have to break it in half to.

the news didnt say what I'm about to say, but I think he may have to get a 2nd amputation at a hospital to make a clean cut so it will heal.

Speaking of "severence" I must ask you as you seem to be Bennett's barber, was he wearing a Smurf shirt at the time of his shearing? Can you give us some insight into the 2nd highest rated player at RHP? Translation: "What the hell is a PhD in philosophy and epistimology doing wearing a Smurf shirt?" Thank you.😉 Kirk

Actually, in the interview I saw yesterday, he cut it off at the wrist. He snapped both bones at the wrist using the weight of his body. Then he used the pocket knife to do the rest. The doctors said they would have had to have done it anyway becuase of the tissue damage. In my book, he is one tough dude.

I wonder what Bennett's favorite smurf is? My vote is that it is Grumpy smurf. I do have a question, did any of our older RHP players play the drinking game "Smurf" at college?

Even better than a Smurf shirt, it was a Smurf bed sheet. And I am in no position to analyze, criticize, or condemn anyone for their choice of bed linen as I am equally culpable, being the somewhat sheepish owner of Transformers and Charlie Brown bed sheets.

Do they even make Smurf shirts for adults? They should at least have them for children with gigantism...

This just happened again, here in Australia. This time the guy was a miner, working 3km underground. he was driving a front-end loader that overturned, pinning his arm to the rock wall of the shaft. although there were other workers around who set about organising a rescure right away, the guy was so scared that the vehicle would burst into flames, he whipped out a stanley knife and hacked his arm off. it was probably totally unnecessary, since the vehicle completely failed to catch fire. i can't help wondering whether he would have been in more or less pain after the amputation?

I've heard of similar occurances, usually farmers or other people who work with heavy machinary alone. But seeing as it appears to be gettin more common, here's a medical tip - if you tear your limb off instead of cutting it off your blood vessels constrict automatically, dramatically stemming the flow of blood and lessening the chance you'll bleed to death. Anybody want to give it a go?

I saw a program on The Learning Channel where a farmer was Bushhogging a field and hit a hole...was thrown from the tractor... and was promptly run over. The thing cut off both arms and both legs! He managed to survive and the Docs have put back on all but one leg. He doesn't have complete use of everything but it is amazing what they can do with the nano surgery and actually sewing up nerves.

Just thought I'd share that. Interesting thread. I'm not usre I could hack something off my own body.
