I was in the US Marines. I didn’t care for the regimentation but I can see the appeal to some people. Once in the best advice I ever got was “keep you nose and your clothes clean.” Fresh, starched uniform every day, haircut every 2 weeks and spit shined shoes will get you a long way and make life easier. Of course there’s always the chance you’ll see combat which can really ruin your enlistment.

If we had the ideal of "kill everything that moves"...then i say go....
But the liberals of today won't let you...so after you get shot or shot at you can fire back....anyone who joins army is retarded.

I know what CV's talking about. Been there. When you go in it’s an OK life then you go to Viet Nam or some other butt crack place and often you don’t even know who it is that’s trying to kill you. Maybe it’s a guy in uniform, maybe it’s the barber that cuts you hair, jokes with you and takes your tip. Maybe it’s some 12 year old kid with a bomb hidden on him. Could be anybody. You can’t shoot at anybody though until one of your friends head disappears in a cloud of blood and brains, some of which splatters all over your face. Then you can shoot back. At least as long as you’re careful that the fear, excitement and confusion doesn’t screw up your aim and you hit a noncombatant. The kids that come home with their nose and ears burned off, legs and arms missing, things like that, may put on a brave face, but they are hurting; their lives are ruined. I was one of the lucky ones.
