Not totally correct. There were two alleged attacks on the Maddox. The one on Aug 2 did happen, but the alleged attack on Aug 4 did Not. In 2007 information was made public. National Security Agency history of signals intelligence (SIGINET)in Vietnam was released. You can read about it here:
