Has anyone here tried this diet? It has worked remarkably well for me each time I manage to implement it successfully (lost 8 pounds in the first 5 days on this most recent attempt). The problem lies in the fact that after a month or so, I become extremly bored eating the same high-protein foods over and over and over again. Does anyone have any tips as to how to quell this boredom of continually eating the same things?

My g/f tried the Atkins a while ago but it drove her mad, every time i hid the sausage she broke out in a cold sweat. You can't beat exercise to shed a few pounds.
my parents did the Atkins diet with some success (although I'm still not convinced it is healthy!). They have now moved to the 'lifetime' diet. You slowly increase your vedge intake and allow a little bit more carbs bit by bit until you start to gain weight again, at which point to reduce your carb intake to the level immediatly prior where you weren't gaining weight. They're now eating pretty normally, just with less sauces, next to no pasta/rice/potato/bread and a fried breakfast every morning. Apart from the high fat intake this diet seems healthier in traditional terms because it mainly reduces the high carb levels which we are over depoendant on but allows fruit and vedge. I don't know if it helps reduce the boredome long term.
Originally posted by belgianfreakAccording to most nutritionists the average Westerner's diet has too little carbohydrate and too much fat, and in the case of meat-eaters too much protein as well. In fact, they recommend that you get about half your daily energy from bread, pasta, potatoes etc. Dr Atkins was something of a rebel in this regard.

A different problem is that the carbohydrates we do eat are too refined (ie sugar as opposed to starch). This messes up the rate at which they are digested and puts additional strain on the blood-sugar system.
