I thought the black square was obviously an artistic reference to Italo Calvino's story "All At One Point"
Questionable whether it was "art". The funniest part was a few years later they had the lobby painted. The painters took down the squares, and nobody remembered what order they got hung in, so they had to pay the artist to come back in and perform his "magic".
