I have AVG installed on my PC. Now when I log in, I get a big huge box that fills the screen almost, informing me that AVG v7.1 will no longer be free as of January '07.
Does this mean that after 3 years of owning a PC, that I will have to dig deep and finally purchase ant anti virus program.
DAMN!
😠

That sucks. I am running AVG on my PC and planned to install it on my laptop once my trial period for McAfee runs out. But if I have to pay for it, I'll probably rather look for something else. I just saw today that my bank offers Norman for free. I had never heard about it. Does anybody here use it? Is it any good?

Men always have to pay for a woman - especially married men! 😳

Just get Avast!, I used to have it in my previous laptop and never had any problems.

Nope, not used Norman. I will look into it though.

How long have you used it for?

About two years, I guess. I'm not sure.

Try checking out some other forums if you have doubts.

That sounds pretty convincing. Here's one for you though. My Brother doesn't even use an AV program, he says that a firewall is enough for him.

Depends on what he does, but not installing at least a free one sounds like folly.

Check out Antivir, as well. I don't know much about it.

No, it doesn't mean that you muppet.

They're discontinuing the support for v7.1 because they've released v7.5.

I've been using this since I got that same message. Personal Edition is free.

http://www.free-av.com/

I have used Avast in the past which is excellent also.

I only saw that notice from AVG on one occasion saying it was ending in January - couldn't find any confirmation on their site tho' - very strange - they are still promoting the free version.

Norman Anti Virus software has a good reputation so should be ok - not usually free though.

As I said, my bank offers it for free to their customers.

I also get Norton for free from my internet provider, but I got rid of it because it slows down the system so much.

What internet service do you use, sometimes they provide free antivirus.
