Has anyone here had any luck with reclaiming unfair bank charges with the high court stay in place?

I am sick of my banks loan shark tactics.

Although I have slipped up a few times (like once when I gave a friend a cheque for £5,000 but he actually waited 2 months to pay it in! by witch time it had slipped my mind) whenever they have tried to charge me I just simply told them I wasn't happy about it and they have always (probably about 4 times over the last 15 years) reimbursed me the charges

Yes, I have... I started proceeding against my bank for last five years charges presevered and got 2k back ...have now decided to claim back insurance on credit card. Don't give up it's worth hanging in there for.

Im in my overdraft at the moment. I am scared they will withdraw my overdraft if I start proceedings.

altough i have not gone through the process I did hear that you are best to get yourself another account as they are likely to close yours completely (this was on some TV program about the process)

i was told by someone that it was illegal for them to close your account in this way but the TV program did say that it was common.

Thanks to this guy, I got £2800 back from First Direct end of last year...that includes Interest they were obliged to pay, and Court Costs.
I began proceedings, they offered half, I said no, then 9 days before going to court, they offered in full.

Good luck 🙂

Must be nice to let £5,000 slip ones mind....even after 2 months.

What and how much are bank charges over there? Here my only charge is if a check bounces, or if I want to order more checks. But I don't have any bank loans.

they can be anything from £12 to >£35 depending on the bank and will be charged when any payment attempts to be taken from the account, if there is not enough money in account to cover it.

some banks recently dropped from £35 to £12 which appears good to begin with but now they usually charge you for the failed withdrawal and again for the charge taking you beyond your limit, so in effect its £24 😞

bank charges can vary but i would say on average between £25.00-£35.00 per charge , so for every time you exceed your limit or a direct debit is refused there is a charge then at the end of the month the bank adds interest onto the charge, which can now all be claimed back as the banking ombudsman has deemed a reasonable charged should really be about £4.00 -£12.00

So what did you spend the £5,000 on that resulted in you getting charged and did your friend ever get their money?

Don't those tend to be cash transactions (£100 notes in plastic sandwich bags) ?😉

Of course he got the money, the £5,000 cheque was cashed, it's just that it took me by suprise as some time had elapsed, so it sent me a few hundred pounds overdrawn, but my bank (First Direct) waived the charges when I spoke to them about it

If he hadn't of got the money at the time I would have transferred enough cash into my current account to pay him, I would never be so dishonourable as to not pay.
